HubSkins

Make GitHub look like yours.

HubSkins gives every GitHub page one of 16 hand-made themes: repositories, pull requests, code, diffs and your profile. Pick one and every open tab changes at once.

What you get

The whole site, not just the background

HubSkins swaps GitHub's own color settings, so new pages and small details get the theme too.

  • Repositories
  • Pull requests and diffs
  • Issues and labels
  • Code and syntax colors
  • Buttons and menus
  • Your profile
  • Gists

Readable in every theme

Each text color is checked against the backgrounds it sits on and adjusted until it passes the WCAG AA contrast standard. Code, diffs and labels stay easy to read.

Your contribution graph, recolored

Your green squares turn pink, neon, gold or ocean blue to match the theme. One switch turns it off.

Your own picture behind GitHub

Add any wallpaper. The theme's color covers it, and a lock keeps the cover strong enough that text stays readable, even over a white photo.

A new theme every day

Turn it on and GitHub looks different each morning. Turn it off and it keeps the theme you picked.

Instant, in every tab

Change the theme and every open GitHub tab updates without a reload. Pages never flash the default look first.

Shortcuts and small touches

Alt+Shift+T turns themes on or off and Alt+Shift+N jumps to the next one. Starring a repo plays a small burst, and it respects your reduced-motion setting.

Questions

Good to know

Is it free?

Yes. HubSkins is free, with no ads and no paid tier. If you like it, you can support the developer from the extension popup.

Why does it need access to github.com?

That is where the themes are applied. HubSkins changes colors and fonts on github.com and gist.github.com. It does not read your code, repositories or account.

Does it slow GitHub down?

No. The theme is plain CSS that the browser loads with the page, and switching themes only changes one attribute.

Will it break when GitHub changes?

Themes work by replacing GitHub's own color settings instead of targeting individual elements, so ordinary redesigns do not affect them. If something looks wrong, tell the developer and it will be fixed.

Is it made by GitHub?

No. HubSkins is an independent project and is not affiliated with or endorsed by GitHub.
